Adele singer speaks about her figure, weight

I love Adele's music and after watching the graham norton show were she was a guest, I liked her personality as well. She seems like a funny, down to earth kind of person, which is very rare in the music biz.

Here is a bit from Adele's interview in Q magazine:

Someone Like You singer Adele also spoke about how she has come to terms with her figure, and has no intention of slimming down by dieting or hitting the gym.

She said: 'I never fell under that spell. I'm a size 16, normal.

'But I wouldn't encourage anyone to be unhealthy overweight just as much as I wouldn't encourage a f***ing Ralph Lauren model to suck ice when she feels like fainting.

'I'm just encouraging people to stop bullying each other. I've got a lot of things on my to-do list and that's right at the bottom. When I can squeeze in time, I don't want to go down the f***ing gym, I want to go to the pub with my mates.

'I can't be bothered. It's not even lazy, it's just other things thrill me in life.'

I luv this because she's living her life and her weight isn't a problem because most of the women who are not seen as being slim have all lost weight and made a lot of money from it, some using weight-watchers, surgery and just exercising and diets...It's a shock to see a women like Adele who hasn't gone on a diet and lost all the weight...

But imagine if she lost the weight. If you go on her video "rolling in the deep," there are a lot of comments about her weight but I think it's part of her package, who she is and I think she would lose her spark if she lost the weight, but if she loses it to make her feel better or health reasons then thats fine.

An example, for what I am talking about is jennifer hudson, she lost 80Ib and to me I might be wrong but she lost that extra part of her that made her special. That made us love her in Dream girls, wow, when she sang And I am telling you, I almost cried. But now she's boring and she is no different to Beyonce, Ciara, Rihanna, Keri hilson...

Also the funny thing is she's lost all this weight and her album is not doing as well as her first, even with all this promo but then you have Adele who probably wears the same dress size that Jennifer used to have before the weight loss and she is breaking records and she is touching people's hearts with her voice, music and talent. However, if Jennifer wasn't happy with her body and it made her misery then it's good she lost the weight and she is happy now that she has lost the weight. But it would be sad if she was put under pressure to lose the weight by the media or she lost the weight for more publicity because she was on weight-watcher ads on tv, she was on every fitness, diet, healthy eating, tabloid magazine talking about her weight and that's a lot of money to gain from losing weight.

Which goes on with what Adele also said in Q magazine:

One of the most refreshing qualities about Adele is that, unlike many of today's music stars, she has never succumbed to the commercial side of the industry.

And the London-born star insists she will never lend her name to a product.

She explained: 'I think it's shameful when you sell out.

'It depends on what kind of artist you wanna be but I don't want my name anywhere near another brand.

'I don't wanna be tainted or haunted - I don't wanna sell out in any way.'

'I don't come from money and I'm not fussed by money.

'I like nice things now I've got it but I'd still be alive and healthy and a good person if I didn't have money now.

'But if I was money-driven, I'd be very excited about the money coming in.

'I'd be the face of full-fat Coke. Get another million in the bank.'

Malissa Jones: Once Britains fattest teen now fighting anorexia

How in the world does that happen, this story is very sad but also it opens a lot of people's eyes to the truths of surgery because everytime there is a show about a person 6 tonnes or world's fattest this or that. They show you how much they eat and how it saddens their family and then the surgery and the quick weight loss. But they don't show you how many people lose their lives at these surgeries...how many people are unhappy about their bodies after.

Here is Malissa's story:

A woman who was once Britain's fattest teenager is now battling with anorexia after her life was turned upside down by a gastric bypass operation.

Malissa Jones, 21, lost so much weight that she now tips the scales at just 8 stone. Four years ago, before her surgery, doctors were warning her that she had to take drastic action after ballooning to 34 stone.

They warned her she had to shed 20 stone or would die within months. Now the pendulum has swung the other way for Malissa, from Selby, North Yorkshire with doctors now warning she could die in six months unless she increases her food intake.

The sad thing is she is only 21 years old....But I feel like her being labelled as Britains fattest teen probably had a negative impact on her mentally because it is horrible to be called fat or names by people at school or work...where ever but when the whole country sees you as the fattest teen it must be horrific and she probably just wanted to lose the weight and the label quickly go away.

I also think that some of the medical proffession's don't handle the situation very good at all because imagnie someone telling you...if you don't lose 20 stones you will die. The truth of the matter is I doubt she would have died in six months because she didn't just wake up one morning and she was 34 stones. They should have supported her and guided her on to ways she could have SLOWLY lost the weight and not scared her into thinking that having surgery was the only way she would have lost the weight to save her life in only 6 months.

Malissa was the youngest person in the world to have a stomach bypass when surgeons performed the £10,000 NHS operation in January 2008.

She consumed 15,000 calories a day from gorging on chocolate, crisps and junk food - seven and a half times the recommended 2,000 calories for a girl of her age. But parents Richard and Dawn were unable to stop her food cravings.

A day's food included about eight Mars bars, 10 packets of crisps, several sandwiches and takeaways from the local chippie. I spent all my pocket money on food.

'I was only happy when I was eating,' she told Closer Magazine

15,000 calories that's a lot and I feel like instead of having surgery they should have encourged her to do more sports like swimming, walking or riding a bike. 3 times a week. It's fun...she would have lost weight and all the skin around her body would still look good not like now. Also instead of saying 15000 calories to 2.000 they could have slowly introduced healthier foods and she could still eat what she wanted....Also councelling would have been good because she said eating made her happy...why? What made her sad...bullying/ family issues. It would have taken her years to lose 20 stones but she would have gained so much more and she would be truelly healthy...

'I know it sounds ungrateful, but I preferred my body when I was fat,' the 19-year-old said.

'At least it was firm and curvy, not droopy and saggy. I had nice firm arms - now the skin just hangs and I have to cover them up because they look so awful.'

'I hoped being slimmer would mean I could wear a bikini and go swimming, but I'm too ashamed of my body.

After she miscarried a baby at 15 weeks, Malissa was distraught when doctors told her she is unlikely to carry a baby full term as her scarred stomach can't take the pressure of a growing uterus.

That is one of the worst things a women could hear...you can't have anymore children...Sooo many horrible things at only the age of 21 years old. To wake up and exercise 3 times a week is not hard and to have 1 or 2 mars bar instead of 8 can be hard but if people around her had advised her and supported her right she could have fought this...and anyone else who is considering this opperation...it's not worth it. I would rather go for a walk everyday....forget diets/ pills all that is a waste of money....

Malissa grew up in a family who all had weight problems. Her mother Dawn, 46, is now 16st but weighed 10st more before having her own gastric band fitted.

However her mother said: 'I don't regret encouraging her to have it, the bottom line is Malissa would have died if she didn't lose the weight.'

The sad thing is her surgery could have killed her and now she is battling anorexia and could die.

Her mother probably thought that "You know it worked for me, it will work for my daughter...children do tend to follow their parents a lot...I blame the parents...I don't think they tried at all to support her and motivate her to walk or to eat less but they were just like yupp..34 stones lets go and get surgery.....I feel like if they worked harder to support their child they could have had grandchild in the future.

'Food made my physically sick,' she said. 'I had to force myself to eat.' Her daily diet is now three cooked carrots, two portions of parsnip and a roast potato, which provides 300 calories.

'I'm too thin. My body shocks me. But swallowing is painful. Eating a tiny amount gives me stomach cramps or makes me sick.

'I will most likely die of a heart attack, so I must persevere with eating. I am trying, but it is so hard.'

Too fat = heart attack

Too skinny = heart attack

Now what? .....

Losing weight will make you look older- Nigella Lawson vs Gillian McKeith

In the society we live in losing weight is potrayed as the key to everything...Love, health...happieness and even youth. But that is not what Nigella Lawson thinks...

The 51-year-old is convinced that her voluptuous physique keeps her looking young and claims that she would ‘age ten years straightaway’ if she lost weight.

And she insists she is happy with what she sees in the mirror

She said: ‘Of course, I have moments of doubt. All women have times thinking, “My God, I can’t go out, my hips are so big today!”

I’ve got no desire to go below it. If I lost 40lb, I would age ten years straightaway. That’s my excuse!

‘But you know women find it very easy to persecute themselves over their weight and whenever I’ve said, “I ought to lose a bit of weight,” I can guarantee I’ll put it on.

‘I love food and I love cooking so therefore I never deprive myself. Thinness is fantastic for clothes, but I don’t do fashion.’

I have to agree with her for the majority of women not all but the majority they will thrive to be thin or slim because they want to look great in clothes and basically it about fashion.

In contrast we have Gillian Mckeith who I remember I used to watch her show "You are what you eat." And I used to listen to what Gillian said and take notes but now I look at the show and think how I could have used my time wisely instead of listening to what this women was saying....Yes this is the same 52 year old who claimed she was pregnant on I'm a celebrity get me out of here. Makes you question a lot of things she says.

Nigella Lawson and Gillian Mckeith are both 52 years old and both their careers and what made them famous was about food. The difference was Nigella has a cook show and she makes beautiful food and Gillian went around telling people that what they ate was wrong and that they should eat this and that...

At the end of all of this, if I was 52 I would rather look like Nigella than Gillian because Nigella looks 40 years and Gillian looks like she's in her late 60's. If I was 50 years old and plus the last thing I would want to do is to be counting the calories and hitting the gym with the 20 year olds.

Why I gave up Dieting and Wanting to Lose Weight

After dieting or attempting to lose weight for many years, something was finally working, I was losing weight….Slowly but surely. After 4 months I had lost 11 pounds and my BMI was below 25. I was officially healthy and not overweight but how did I feel. Yes, I felt happy when I had gotten on that scale and the numbers went down but then I would just start thinking about wanting the scale to go even lower and the happieness would go away.

I also received a few compliments about my weight and it felt good. I am not going to say eating healthy and exercising is wrong but when you are doing it to lose weight you usually get carried away and start doing extreme things. For example, I went on a fruits and vegetable diet. In a day I lost 2 pounds but I felt so sick, depressed and sad. I just felt horrible and I think to all these celebs doing this to themselves…it’s not nice and I would rather be overweight than ever go through that again.

As well, I exercise using workout Dvd’s and I sprained my leg using a workout dvd. I never thought that would ever happen to me but it did and now I look at it, am I healthier now than I was before, I think not. I got a cold as well this year, the doctor said because I wasn’t receiving enough nutrients my immune system wasn’t strong enough to fight off the virus as quickly as it had done before and I am a person who hasn’t had a cold or flu in years.

Being healthy is not defined by the number on the scale but you and you're body. Being healthy means being mentally, physically, socially and emotionally well.
